Background
Unexpected asset in the evolution and regeneration of Poole's waterfront
This site was leftover highway land but ultimately became the site for a new gateway building to the town, providing 46 affordable homes. Clients Sovereign Housing Association / Homes England / BCP Council / Drew Smith combined to deliver this valuable scheme on this challenging site within walking distance of town centre amenities.
Design
Much-needed affordable homes
This part-four/part-eleven storey building contains a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments all with views across Holes Bay and their own private west-facing balcony. Undercroft car and cycle parking, and service space, occupies the space created by lifting the building clear of flood risks, whilst mitigating road traffic noise for lower floors. The 3D design employing three principal materials reflects the 360 degree views towards the building. Two-tone brickwork dominates the low-rise elements of the building while the tower is clad in raised seam, non-combustible zinc cladding.
