Winners: Sustainable Business of the Year

In 2019 we made an explicit commitment on sustainability in order to make our contribution towards combatting the global climate emergency. Architect Alex Watson self-selected himself as our Sustainability Champion and in 2021 we, after a lot of work, were certified as a Carbon Neutral Company. This included reviewing all our suppliers, energy use and work processes, and we also leased two electric vehicles for company use. Alex led on the production of our own Sustainability Strategy which we now publish every year on our website. This indicates our targets per year with the aim being to become Carbon Zero by 2030.
As architects and masterplanners we need clients who want to create sustainable development projects in order to apply our knowledge and expertise. We believe that by making our own commitments we have established our own position, allowing us to more credibly challenge our clients to do the same.
Our company commitment to sustainability has been lauded by our peers, especially given our SME status. In a similar way, our sustainable projects are growing in number and scale. Starting with a single large family home in Somerset designed to Passivhaus standards we are now designing a modular scheme for 40 homes which will be highly sustainable.
