North Walls Park Plan, Winchester

12ha • Adopted Council Strategy • Winchester City Council
Background
Great parks are made up of great places
As one of the city’s major green spaces North Walls Recreation Ground is highly cherished and a valuable resource for city life, health and well-being. As a multi-functional and intergenerational space, the recreation ground contributes towards the character, diversity and distinctiveness of the city landscape. The Park has impressive rivers running throughout together with a number of pedestrian bridges.
We were appointed by Winchester City Council to prepare a new vision and design for the park. Public consultation was integral to the successful outcome.

Design
A series of outdoor zones
Our Park Plan, prepared jointly with Feria Urbanism and UBU Design, recommends an overarching strategy for making improvements to the recreation ground, using a phased approach over the next 10 years. Identifying a number of Outdoor Zones we recommend a number of potential park interventions which will make the park more attractive.
Each improvement area has been prioritised based on feedback from the public consultation and urgency of work required.
