The family farm at Horton Heath was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and over the last 40 years Owtons Traditional Family Butchers has become established as one of the premier wholesale butchers in the country, with its own on site farm shop. This despite their former premises being an over-grown collection of ageing farm buildings.
Design
All operations under one roof
We were appointed to design a new butchery for the family that accommodates the complete business operation, allowing staff and visitors to enter, circulate and use the building in a way that meets the strict requirements set down by the Foods Standards Agency.
Key to the success of the design was careful consultation with the users to properly understand the way in which the building would be used. One response to which was to externalise the structure and services in order to allow flush internal walls against which internal fitouts could run seamlessly.
