A people-first approach to city living
Informed by the council’s emerging renaissance masterplan, this development creates a cultural and residential landmark that supports the regeneration of central Southampton. Our scheme forms a vibrant new hub for creative, learning and community uses, while reinforming the flow between the Station Quarter and the wider city centre.
A striking new addition to the city’s skyline, making a bold and unique statement
Through early character analysis and engagement, we considered how the site’s industrial heritage and its relationship with the evolving Station Quarter could shape a new tall building in the area. The outcome is a compact, vertical development on constrained land, shaped to respond to urban views and local movement patterns.

The proposal was unanimously approved by the city’s planning committee in July 2025. The design was praised by officers for its bold, confident approach and the clarity of its architectural expression.

The tower establishes a distinctive identity while complementing the surrounding context. Its base contains cultural, creative and communal spaces. Above, residential uses are arranged in elegant, legible forms that express a sense of permanence and dignity. The architectural language draws from archetypal tall building forms, avoiding fashionable gestures in favour of timeless clarity.

At its top, the tower opens up to the city and beyond. A sky lounge and shared social space provide views across Southampton and out to the New Forest, adding a sense of delight and distinctiveness to the skyline.

Materials have been chosen for their robustness and relevance to the site’s industrial surroundings. Planting, external public spaces and improved pedestrian and cycle routes integrate the development with its neighbourhood. The scheme redefines the western gateway to the city and supports a properly urban future for Southampton.
